The Pacific Railroad

The Pacific Railroad started construction on its new line from St. Louis west to Pacific on May 10th, 1850, and the first train came into Pacific on July 20th, 1853. This train had one coach and several flat cars filled with sightseers from St. Louis. On the arrival of the train, people looked around the town and several lots were sold. A telegraph office was opened here then and the railroad was in business.

The bridge and building department of the Missouri Pacific opened shops here in 1871 and the roundhouse and car shops in 1872. Pacific was quite the rail center at one time with accommodation trains, helper engines and other trains originating here.

The Pacific Railroad was a railroad based in Missouri. It was the predecessor of both the St. Louis-San Francisco Railroad (the Frisco) which was absorbed into the Burlington Northern Railroad to become BNSF, and the Missouri Pacific which became part of the Union Pacific Railroad.
