By 1932, the final original mile of the highway in Missouri was completed, solidifying its importance. In 1933, the route was realigned through the Meramec River Valley, improving travel through towns like Valley Park and Eureka. By 1934, Route 66 extended to its famous endpoint overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Santa Monica, California. In 1935, the highway flourished as a destination, with roadside attractions, diners, and motels turning it into a hub of tourism and Americana.
